Nothing annoys me more than.. |

Nothing drives me nuts more than injustice and inconsideration.
Injustice: when I feel someone or myself is being treated unfairly, I make it a point to raise the subject and make sure it doesn't happen again. This gets me in trouble sometimes when I start nit-picking. I realize sometimes I need to look at the bigger picture and let things go, but its hard for me to do that. I have been trying to let things go more and sometimes I'm happy I do that, while other times I'm not. Nothing irks me more than favoritism in the work place or school (or even in family but that's a whole other can of worms), especially if say, at work, you work with one of the relatives of the head honcho. Not all the time, but sometimes these relatives slack off and kick their feet up at work, nothing gets said to them, because of their relationship with the big cheese. However if someone else were to do the same things, observations/complaints would be made. On the other hand, the relative... [Read More]

"Little Zizou" and the Parsi Community
I saw Little Zizou yesterday. I don't know what the hype is all about and I don't understand what fascination Parsis have with movies that portray their own culture in a negative aspect. Its like they have a masochistic tendency when it comes to film. The worse a film portrays Parsis and Parsi behavior the greater applaud it gets, BY PARSIS! I just cant figure it out.
I know we have our problems, I know the fighting is petty, but this movie portrayed it in the worst way. Sure this will help bring to light the problems but the movie could have taken a more constructive tone. It did not address any of our root causes, or hit home at all. It did not inspire me to do anything except make a better movie about Parsis! I can only imagine what non-Parsi people thought about Parsi's when they saw this movie.
Why for once cant a Parsi director highlight the good things about our community?... [Read More]

A forgotten people: The Parsis of rural Gujarat
Last month, I accompanied the Young Rathestars to rural Gujarat. The Young Rathestars are a Zoroastrian charity in Mumbai that provide financial assistance to poor Parsis in Bombay and other places in India. The purpose of their trip was to distribute foodgrains, other essentials and financial aid to over 70 rural Zoroastrian families in the villages around Ankleshwar.
Unlike the Young Rathestars, I am not a social worker. I am a documentary filmmaker and for some time now, I have been documenting the realities of the existence of our community that seem all too obvious to me but somehow are not on the radar of those around me. One such issue I want to document is that of the people we love to dismiss as Dubras, the illegitimate children of Parsi fathers with their tribal mistresses. The history of the Dubras lies in the villages of rural Gujarat, and my purpose in accompanying the Young... [Read More]

What Drives the Zarathushti Spirit?
Every two years, Zarathushti youth have the opportunity to attend congresses all over the world. Hundreds attend each congress to make acquaintances, meet old friends and family, network, find their soul mate. Perhaps even for the commitment to their faith and to make a positive change in their community.
But with the age of instant messages and emoticons, the gaps between each two or more years has lessened. Networking sites like Myspace, Facebook, Orkut, Zpeakerbox and many others are a place for people to stay in touch no matter where they are. It gives you the space (and yet, some may argue, lack thereof) to keep in contact with many at a time, and with very little effort.
In previous articles, we've questioned how Zpeakerbox is any different than other networking websites. What we've concluded is that it's not.
But it begs the question, what sets Zpeakerbox aside from other... [Read More]

Internet Dating and Long Distance Relationships
What does it take to find true love? Can it exist between two computer monitors and masses of copper?
With the Zarathushti population spread out in pockets around the world, the Internet has become a power tool in bringing our community together.
Do you believe romantic relationships can be built and carried with thousands of miles separating a couple?
Would you be willing to be romantically involved with someone you had only first met over the Internet?
Can true love be found without even having met someone in the flesh?
