People cant even write an article about Parsi food without dragging politics into it

Some of you have probably seen this article. To a vast many of you its a great article cataloging Parsi eateries in Bombay. To me its a article about food that slips in jabs to one side of the political spectrum.

Is it really necessesary that they write such things like 'unless you want to wait for the increasingly rare occasion of two parsis getting married' Which btw is bullshi.. because if you all all the major baugs and halls where Parsi's have weddings in india they are booked serveral months if not years out. They could have just left it at food, but for some reason they felt compelled to include to drag in that we dont allow mixed married people or converts. It just goes to show that people cant write anything good anymore for the sake of writing good things about our religion. It invariably gets tainted with politics, and thats just sad.

When I went back and reread this article, I couldnt decide if the main point of the article was about our food or about how quickly in the author's opinons we were going to die.

Some FINE journalism! By who elese but a so called Parsi.

hey hey now lets not drag religion into a critique about restaurant reviews.

speaking of which something I've eaten today didn't agree with me and i've spent the last 45 minutes in the washroom. major suckage. :(

Haha, some anger there Jimmy, I like it.

For some reason I have the author of that article on my facebook, I can yell at her if you want, although for the most part she seems to write some pretty insightful stuff, not usually about religion though.

I actually really like Deena's article for what it is, but I can pass along your comments if you want. Her body of work has always spoken for itself and, for the most part, it actually has been some fine journalism.

Keep in mind, this is a travel article. You can bring in your own opinion and I don't beileve her opinion is anything like you deduced from the article - but I won't speak for her. I think a lot of what she brings in to the article are opinions of the people she has spoken with during her meetings. No religious class I have been to has excluded politics in the way you describe it, let alone any function or discussion about the religion. When Parsi identity, history, and culture is so intertwined with politics, do you really expect there to be a seperation in an article that talks about the dwindling fate of Irani cafes?

If you feel so strongly, maybe you should write Deena a detailed response.

I read the article. Not sure what the main point is either. Jimmy, maybe we can invite the author to our wedding :)

Would have been nicer if she had stayed on point with the food. The food reviews would been more effective that way.

I didn't mind the politics as much as i minded the food reviews. Paradise makes absolutely what is the worst and most over-priced dhansak in town. :)
