Topic of the Month - January 2008

Let's reflect. To some, 2007 was just another year; to others, it was a time of big changes; and for many, it was a time when we were in a transition of many great things to come. For this month's topic of the month, we encourage you to answer some of these questions and perhaps, ask your own, ask your fellow Zpeakerbox friends... share your thoughts:

What's your best memory of 2007?

What are you the most grateful for?

What has been the greatest affect in your life over the last year?

Do you have any regrets for the past year? Anything you wish you could do-over?

What about a new year's resolution? What does that mean for you?

If you could make one change in your life, what would you change for yourself in 2008?

---
From the entire Zpeakerbox team, we want to wish you and your families a very happy new year! Best wishes for 2008.

Re: Topic of the Month - January 2008

I'm most grateful for being alive to see another year. A lot of people take being alive for granted, but I truly believe it's something to be very thankful for.

Sure, I have regrets, but it's too late to change it now or think about it. What's done is done. Now, I need to make sure not to make the same mistake twice.

My new year's resoltion is to be more logical and use less emotions. It may sound silly, but sometimes, it's more important to listen to your head than your heart. In the end, it'll be most beneficial. Also, remain calm under stressful situations.

If I could make one change in my life, it would be too be a better person. Not just for 2008, but for all the years to come.

Happy New Year Everyone.

What's your best memory of 2007? Finally getting my dream car

What are you the most grateful for? My wonderful family

What has been the greatest affect in your life over the last year? no one person or thing had a huge impact on my life this year, 2007 for me was a 'do it yourself' year

Do you have any regrets for the past year? Anything you wish you could do-over? hmmm regrets? yes, i do, but they are not up for discussion on the internet! ive learnt from them and thats all you need to know!

What about a new year's resolution? What does that mean for you? make a trip to india by end of year.. that may sound easy but its proven difficult for the past 8 years!

If you could make one change in your life, what would you change for yourself in 2008? read more... and get a six pack :P

All in all besides getting my car and the congress/AU in late 2007, it was mostly a unremarkable if not crappy year. Now that I think about it, im really looking forward to 2008, and to what the future may bring. Im pretty optimistic about this year. I mean if anything else bush will be gone from office!

My best memory of 2007 was making the biggest and greatest decision I've ever made in my entire life: how to angle yourself just right to make it into the Bombay Times newspaper, page two, celebrity section.

But all flattery aside, 2007 was a really fantastic and life-changing year for me. Whether it was attempting to digest paan outside the Colaba gates of CB, dodging the riots in north India, climbing big rocks on the Canadian east coast, or laying on the white beaches under the Cuban sun, nothing was more amazing to me in the last year than the smallest discoveries that came along the way in the midst of all that. I discovered the greatness of the shady, underground restaurants lurking from spring to winter, investing in the indulgence of the bar around the corner from work, dancing pretty much every weekend with some of the most amazing people, and well... just being happy, ear to ear.

That's, I suppose, what I'm most grateful for. Just being happy. 2007 was a year I was given a thousand reasons to smile, a million reasons to laugh, and well, too many toothy grins to count. I met an interesting lady on my travels in the early part of the year that helped me gained a lot of perspective at how we see the world, how we choose to live our life. I probably owe her my life. I don't know what she said or what she did but I started the new year as a new person. I came into new form, had a renewed sense of appreciation for everything around me... even the not so great stuff from the past. Mind you, a paradigm shift as grand as that was for me, could not have sustained the many months after had I not been graced by the new people around me. The year 2007 was kind of a detox for me... flushing out the old and idle and bringing in some new energy.

Perhaps the greatest affect in my life over the last year can be attributed to two of my closest friends. Whether it was the company spent at home to a home cooked meal or the coffee dates at the 5pm hour, these two have had the most significant impact on what an amazing year 2007 was. In some way, they both know how much their presence, company, and friendship has had on me and in some way, they'll never know.

Any regrets for the past year? No. I've only ever had 2 regrets in life and they will remain the only two I will ever have. I can't change the past but I can look forward. Acknowledging past regrets isn't the same as keeping those in the present. I suppose at some level there are things I could have done differently, whether it was something I said or how I behaved... but I don't regret these instances because these were part of getting me to where I am today...

However, that doesn't mean there wasn't a need to change, improve, grow as a person. I definitely wanted to make changes in the new year. I made two new years resolutions: 1. I was going to let things roll off my back more, chill out, relax, be a bit more indifferent and be okay to the fact that not everything can always go my way.... that doesn't apply with you, Sharon and 2. I was going to take more risks. I need to push myself out of my comfort zone more than I ever have. We'll see if it works out, I'm trying but we don't know what the remaining 10 months have left. Ask me in December

As for the changes I want to make to my life... I'm not sure what to say to that one. Change scares me and excites me all at the same time.

I suppose rather than anticipate whether my goals will be met, I'd rather just work at them one day at a time. It's not much of a flowery ending but it's an ending nonetheless... well, to the greatest year of my life... for now.

What's your best memory of 2007? May 19, 2007. Paakzaad and I were sitting in my basement watching game 5 of the NHL Eastern Conference final against Buffalo. The game had gone to OT and I was so frustrated with the negativity of the CBC commentators and the lack of productivity in the game that I turned the TV to mute and just sat in frustration watching. A few minutes later, at 9:32 of OT Daniel Alfredsson scored the game winner and sent the Ottawa Senators to the Stanley Cup final. I nearly missed the goal and was in such shock I started crying (happy tears of course!). That day combined with the day I stood along side 4000 + Senators fans at the airport proudly greeting my team after their cup run, despite the disappointing ending = greatest memories.

What about a new year's resolution? Some changes I would like to make for the new year are to be a better person, stop being so naive about life, open my eyes and mind more and open a book once in a while.

I look forward to what is in store for 2008. It will certainly be a big year for me as I close one chapter by finally completing my undergraduate studies and begin a new journey in life with the person most dear to me.

Re: Topic of the Month - January 2008

Just edit the name to "great memories for the year 2008- so far."
there you don't need any new topics, anymore.
